The Spin Cycle
I used to be a Master Catastrophizer. (Say that three times fast.)
My brain loved to go to the worst case scenario and just wallow it in. Happy as a pig in … mud. Ok ok so not happy. But the “mud” part is pretty accurate. It felt like sh*t.
How about you? How often do you automatically go to the worst case scenario?
You get an email from your boss that says “Can you stop by my office so we can talk?”
And your brain decides you’re getting fired and will never work again.
Or you haven’t heard from your significant other all day.
And your brain decides they don’t love you any more or something terrible has happened to them.
Or you have a particularly tough case or opposing counsel or you make a mistake.
And you just like to Google the elements of a malpractice claim.
And then you spin out.
And spin out some more.
I get it. I’ve been there. Got far too many t-shirts.
Catastrophizing is completely normal. Your brain is designed to protect you.
It thinks it is doing you a favor by warning you of danger.
It isn’t.
But I’ve got you.
