How to Enjoy Your Vacations More - Part 4
Remember you are human. And you take your human brain with you on vacation.
Along with all of your unrealistic human expectations and your repeated human thought patterns and your human emotions.
So does everyone else you go with.
We can’t leave our humanness behind or avoid the human experience.
We have such high expectations of vacations.
It’s like prom. Or Valentine’s Day. Or the start of a new year.
We build them WAY up.
Thinking (or at least hoping with all our might) that the vacation is going to be perfect. And that we are going to feel great the whole time. That it is going to solve everything. That we are going to come back feeling perfectly rested. Like a different person.
Then when that inevitably doesn’t happen - at the first sign of a negative experience - we are disappointed.
And we can let that infect the whole vacation.
But we have a human brain everywhere we go.
We’re going to have negative thoughts and negative feelings. Even on vacation. (So rude.)
Don’t let them derail your overall enjoyment of the vacation.
I’m not saying that you should change your expectation that your vacation is going to be great.
Just change your expectation that you won’t still be a human being on your vacation. That the people you go with or that are around you won’t still be human. That life won't happen like it does sometimes.
Go into it expecting that it won’t be perfect. That something might go differently than you hope.
And decide you’re going to enjoy it anyway.
It also isn’t about being positive the whole time. Just intentionally shifting your brain to focus more on the positive than the negative when you notice yourself spinning in the “this whole trip is ruined” mindset.
Deciding things aren’t a problem that you might normally consider a problem. Seriously. Say it out loud: "Nothing has gone wrong."
Asking yourself what you need in the moment to get back to joy, rest, or relaxation. And then giving yourself that.
A ❤️ note to you: Learning how to accept your humanity and accept that you have a human brain won’t only impact your vacations - it impacts every area of your life for the better. And if you’re viewing vacation as an escape, and it doesn’t live up… I can help with all of that.
