Do you think you work better under pressure?

If you tend to procrastinate because you think you are “better” at getting things done at the last minute or you’re “better” at working under pressure…

Consider this instead: Is it possible you are avoiding doing the thing because you are worried it will be less than perfect? And then when the deadline gets close, you allow yourself to drop that expectation as the fear of not getting the thing done gets stronger than the fear of not being perfect?

Really common mode of operation for perfectionists. Perfectionism isn’t about doing things perfect as much as it is about avoiding doing things imperfectly.

How much time would you get back if you were able to drop that expectation of perfection entirely? To be okay with A- or B+ work from the outset. How much better would your work product actually be?

(I hate to break it to you, but you are likely doing less than A+ work already because of the procrastination - you just allow yourself to feel less bad about it because you created a situation where you could tell yourself you just didn’t have enough time.)

A ❤️ note to you: If you like the idea of having more time back and creating better work product, but the idea of intentionally doing A- or B+ or even B work makes your skin crawl, I hear you, and I see you. I was you. I can help you get more time back, create better work product, and do it in a way that feels aligned.
