There is no perfect time to make changes.

I used to love to promise myself that next week or month would be different.

If I could just make it through this one case, deadline, project, trip, or busy spell, things would be different.

I’d slow down.

I’d take care of myself better.

I’d make more time for my family and friends.

I’d get my to-do list under control.

Then that time comes, and I was too exhausted to do (or completely uninterested in doing) any of those things before the next busy period hits.

And the cycle repeated.

Sound familiar?

If it does, then your problem is likely the same as mine was. You keep on waiting and waiting for the perfect time to make changes. For when it feels good and easy and right.

That time isn’t coming.

Start making the change you want to see now.

Even when you’re busy.

Even when it feels overwhelming to think about doing something differently.

The key is taking small steps. Even if that first step is just making small incremental changes to create more time and space to breathe and think, so that you can make the bigger changes.

What’s one small change you can make right now that moves you towards a goal you’ve been putting off until the “right” time or a “better” time?
